What makes a useful identification photo?

Photograph the whole animal from the side under neutral white light. Keep the dorsal fin, tail, mouth and body markings in frame. A clean side view is usually more useful than an extreme close-up, a blue-lit tank or a photo taken through algae-covered glass.

Why AquaDepth shows confidence

Juveniles, colour morphs and closely related species can look almost identical. The result separates the most likely name from visible clues and plausible lookalikes so uncertainty stays visible. Low confidence is a request for better evidence, not an invitation to guess.

Verify before changing care

Compare adult size, mouth shape, fin placement and markings with a trusted profile. Ask the retailer or breeder for provenance where possible. Never change temperature, salinity, medication or tank mates from a photo result alone.

Privacy by design

The browser removes the original resolution and sends a resized copy for one analysis. AquaDepth does not save the image or identification to its database. The copy is processed by Anthropic under its commercial API data-handling terms.
